Frequently asked questions

These are the answers our customers look for most often: how to store living microgreens, how ordering works and what they actually are. If your question is not here, just write to us.

How to store your microgreens?

Our microgreens are not cut. They are living plants that you receive in the natural medium they grew in. That is why you should put them in the fridge as soon as you get them.

The low temperature slows down the plant’s natural metabolism and growth, so it stays fresh and keeps its micro stage for longer.

How to keep them fresh for up to 7 days

  • In the fridge. When your set arrives, put the whole set straight into the fridge. Do not close it in a box or a bag, the plants need to breathe.
  • When you need them. Take the set out just before the meal. Cut only the amount you will use, wash it and add it to your food. Then put the set back in the fridge as soon as possible.
  • Every two days. Soak the whole set for 2-3 minutes in a bowl of water, just enough to cover the holes in the bottom. Then drain it and return it to the fridge.

Important: Do not wash the whole set in advance. Wash only the amount you are about to eat.

Stored properly, the microgreens can stay fresh for up to 7 days. For mung bean and basil we recommend eating them within 5-6 days.

Ordering and delivery

How do I pay?

On delivery, by card or in cash. There is no advance payment and no delivery fee in Plovdiv and the villages within 10 km.

How far in advance should I order?

Microgreens are grown to order and need between 7 and 18 days depending on the variety. The table in the catalog shows how long each one takes. We usually also have ready sets, but quantities are limited, so the exact variety you want is not always available. If you have a preference, or want several varieties at once, write to us early and we will plan the sowing.

Can I order a mix of different varieties?

Yes. One set is 4 cups of a single variety, or 2 halves of two different varieties. If you want several sets with different varieties delivered together, tell us in advance, because each variety takes a different time to grow and we sow so that they are ready at the same time. If you are not sure how to combine them, just ask us.

Do I have to grow them myself?

No. They arrive ready to eat, alive, in the same cup and the same environment they grew in, so all you do is cut as much as you need.

How many dishes does one cup cover?

For one person a cup usually covers about two salads or dishes. Our simple unit is a handful of microgreens per plate. How to keep them fresh is explained under Storage above.

How many grams does one set give?

It depends on the variety, because different plants fill a cup differently. A set is 4 cups, so the weight of one cup is multiplied by four: purple radish gives about 112 to 120 g per set, and pea about 60 to 64 g. We are weighing the other varieties, so if you are interested in a particular one, just ask us. The numbers are approximate, because they depend on the batch and on how high you cut the cup.

What should I do with the cups and bags?

The cups are made of recycled plastic, and we recommend putting them in the plastic recycling bin. The paper bags can be returned to us on a later delivery and we hand them in for recycling.

About the microgreens

Are microgreens the same as sprouts?

No. Sprouts are germinated in the dark for three to five days and eaten whole, seed and root included. Microgreens grow in the light and are cut once they have a stem and their first leaves, which for us is between 7 and 18 days after sowing depending on the variety. That is why their taste and texture are closer to a vegetable than to a sprout.

How do you grow your microgreens?

Without soil, on a natural jute mat, with water and a natural seaweed fertiliser, without pesticides and in a controlled environment: a constant 21-22 °C and humidity between 33 and 45 %. We grow in small batches, in our family farm in Plovdiv.

How long does a microgreen take to grow?

Between 7 and 18 days, depending on the variety. Mung bean and the pink and purple radishes are the quickest, while chives, basil and corn take the longest. The table in the catalog gives the days for every variety, and how to order is explained under Prices and delivery.

Do I need to wash them before eating?

We grow them without pesticides, so it is not compulsory. We still recommend rinsing the amount you are about to eat, as you would any other food.

Do they grow back after I cut them?

Usually not. Cutting the stem at the base removes the growing point, so no new plant forms from it. Pea is the exception and can give a second, weaker harvest. What you often see in the cup after the first cut are late seeds: they were crowded out by their neighbours and now have the room to come up.
